THE history of the 101st!

Before i start... is where you will have to go to find this and other older unit histories. now...
This is the only necessary history of the famed 'screaming eagle' division during WW2. Written by two platoon leaders of the 101st, right after the war, and with complete access to all division records, are 3 reasons why this is the only book you need on the 101st. It covers, completely, the history of training and combat during the war, from the top brass decisions before Normandy to the individual stories from the foxholes surrounding Bastogne. In fact, much of the book is taken from other memoirs, published by actual soldiers of the 101st, like Webster and Koskimaki. If you have any interest in this famous division then you need to find this book at ... and pick it up. You won't be sorry...

The Screaming Eagles...

"Rendezvous With Destiny" is the story of the 101st Airborne Division in the Second World War. It was first published in 1948. Its authors, Leonard Rappaport and Arthur Northwood, themselves veterans of the Division, were careful to capture the still-fresh memories of their fellow Screaming Eagles. The result is a narrative rich in details and compelling as military history.
The story take the division from its activation in 1942 as one of the first two Army Airborne Divisions through its training for combat in England in 1944. The Division would undergo its trial by fire with the jump into Normandy as part of D-Day, June 6. The Division's second rendezvous with destiny was its gallant stand at the key crossroads of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. Arriving by truck in the midst of disaster, the Screaming Eagle paratroopers showed memorable courage in fighting off German panzers over Christmas of 1944. "Rendezvous With Destiny" borrows from the book on the subject by S.L.A. Marshall, and it is still a breathless read. The narrative concludes with the drive into Nazi Germany in 1945 and the Division's eventual (if temporary) deactivation at the end of the war.
The narrative benefits from the impact of many first-person accounts, along with a description of unit activities. It manages to make sense, for example, of the confusion after the D-Day jump. There is a nice selection of maps and period photographs. The scholarship is a little dated, but it is still a highly readable account, and highly recommended to veterans of the 101st from any conflict.

Airbone All The Way

This is the only history of the 101th Airborne Division "The Screaming Eagles" that starts at the beginning. With the splitting of the 82nd Airborne into two Divisions. America doubled it's Airborne forces overnight.
It tells of the brass that stood in the 101th way. The jump into Normandy and the Christmas night in Bastogne. And the defeat of Nazi Germany.
But the history is unfinished. The Grandsons & Granddaughters are still writing this units history,today on the fields of battle today.
