About the Author
Amy Snow began working in the field of acupressure in 1976. She, along with Nancy Zidonis, is the co-founder and Director of Education of Tallgrass Animal Acupressure Institute which offers a comprehensive, (12 courses), certificate training program in equine, canine and feline acupressure worldwide. Amy is the co-author of three animal acupressure books and numerous articles published in national and international publications. She has studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and other healing arts. As Adjunct Faculty in the equine program at Hocking College Amy teaches two of their hands-on courses. Currently, she serves as the Founding Co-Chairman of The National Board of Animal Acupressure & Massage (NBCAAM).

A great book for all dog owners

Acu-Dog is an amazing resource that allows dog owners to help keep their dogs happy and healthy through the use of acupressure. There is a lot of very useful information that is presented clearly and concisely, with several charts and pictures to further help pet owners utilize acupressure effectively for their dogs. The specific condition segment is another great tool provided in this book. As an animal acupressurist I use this book as a trusted reference.

Helps Demystify TCM!

I have always been fascinated by Traditional Chinese Medicine but its many layers tended to make my head spin a bit. Acu-Dog helps take the mystery out of TCM with its easy-to-understand language about Chi, Yin and Yang, Meridians, Acupoints, using acupressure to help balance your dog to help and prevent dis-ease, and much, much more. If you already have "The Well-Connected Dog", you will see a large amount of new information and fantastic color charts and photos that are invaluable in Acu-Dog. This is a reference book that needs to be in every dog lover's library! Use the knowledge you will gain from this incredible book and your dog will thank you immensely for it.

An Excellent TCM Reference Book

As an equine acupressure practitioner and a dog lover, I find Acu-Dog a Guide to Canine Acupressure to be one of my most reliable reference books. I use it often as a review and for specific questions that arise. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a layered approach to health and the deeper one delves, the more layers present. This book is written in a way that makes the layers far less daunting and the information readily accessible. I love the photographs, clear diagrams, and the anatomical references for finding the acupressure points. The information is written in a clear and succinct way, making it user friendly to the reader new to Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as the experienced acupressure practitioner. This is the reference book I reach for first.

Invaluable tool! Another great guide to MS Dynamics AX. I first started purchasing Scott's books as I implemented AX 2009. Those first books gave me the tools to speak in the language of AX. As each topic has been enhanced by Microsoft Scott adds critical functionality notes for new releases.

In this book the order reversal information and graphs highlight an area often overlooked in implementations. The graphical references clearly explain the options to reverse orders.

This book explains Inventory Status (a new dimension for AX 2012 R3) in detail.
This book also adds scenarios and points to compare the Basic vs. the Advanced Warehouse approach.

I have been working in the ERP space for 15 years. 10 years with SAP and 5 with Dynamics AX. My focus for the last 2 years has been implementing AX R3 Warehouse Management. I highly recommend this to users and consultants working with AX Warehouse Management.

Microsoft’s Dynamics AX 2012 R3 solution provides AX practitioners a powerful yet flexible advanced WMS capability. My learning experience with the new module was at first halting and painful as I waited for new documentation and training to become available, most of it discovered through prolonged web searches. As in other Scott Hamilton books, he provides the conceptual knowledge and business flows that standard system documentation doesn’t provide. He does a good job of laying out the lifecycles of various objects (e.g. waves, shipments, loads, work) through extensive explanations and helpful flow diagrams. And whenever the material starts to feel a bit dry, Scott throws in some case studies to add real world perspective.

Scott Hamilton thoroughly researched the WMS application, the concepts, and the background industry knowledge from many angles and sources. In the past Hamilton’s books have saved my bacon in a number of different topic areas, and this one is no exception. Recommend it highly.

This is an important, practical, and engaging book. There are 233 insightful questions. You'll put it down having a clear sense of all of your accomplishments - ones that really matter to employers and investors, and that you may have never framed as such before. The chapter on how to quantity your accomplishments is crucial. The book is an efficient tool for an effective understanding of how effective you've been - and will be in the future. Grades 3-6-- Mary Pope Osborne's retelling of tales about America's folk heroes (Random, 1991) includes an introduction to each tale which tells where and when the stories were first published, and often explains other variations of the tales. The tales include Davy Crockett, Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind, Johnny Appleseed, Stormalong, Mose, Febold Feboldson, Pecos Bill, John Henry, and Paul Bunyan. Most of the characters covered are white males, but there is some diversity with the inclusion of Sally Ann and John Henry. Each story is separated by folk music featuring harmonicas or fiddles. The narrator, actor Scott Snively, uses a matter-of-fact voice to present the historical information, and a very expressive voice for the stories. His different accents are appropriate and often amusing. A few appropriate sound effects are used. A good choice for school and public libraries.

For the 90's, a handsome, well-documented collection of stories about nine uniquely American characters. In her intelligent introduction, Osborne explains their genesis ``from various combinations of historical fact, the storytelling of ordinary people, and the imagination of professional writers'' and notes that changing times put a new light on stories deriding various groups (including women and even animals). Thus her intention is to emphasize ``gargantuan physical courage and absurd humor'' and to ``bring out the vulnerable and compassionate side'' despite the stories' ``ineradicable taint of violence.'' Osborne succeeds pretty well in her intention, piecing together stories that make fine introductions to characters like Mose and Stormalong. Her approach suits Johnny Appleseed and John Henry better than it does Davy Crockett battling a panther, but she does manage to put a new slant on Pecos Bill and his bouncing bride without undermining the story (there's no question of a wife's disobedience here; Sue wants to ride Bill's horse as a test of skill). The telling is more polished than lively--Glen Rounds's irrepressible wit (Ol' Paul, the Mighty Logger, 1949) is more fun, but these versions are perfectly acceptable. McCurdy's vigorous wood engravings, tinted with lucid color, contribute a rugged frontier flavor; lively, though a bit formal in style, they suit the text admirably. So-so...

I would give this book 4 stars for the ease and convenience of having most of the major American folk tales and heroes in one volume, but I would have to give it 3 stars for readability and interest. These stories are actually much more interesting than this book makes them.

I think that perhaps the author, in trying to combine as many different original sources as possible for each story, ended up forsaking style for thoroughness.

Tall tales, when done well, have much more poetic flow than Osborne's do. I thought I was perhaps being too picky, but the fact that my two kids (both story lovers and avid readers) were COMPLETELY uninterested in the stories in this book validates what I had concluded - this volume is pretty much uninspired.

Another case of pc censorship

I remember loving these stories when I was a kid. I decided to purchase a collection to re-read, and with my nephews coming for a visit, thought it would be perfect read-aloud material. I received the book a few days before their arrival, looked at the Introduction, and sent it back the next day. I was saddened, but not surprised to see political correctness creeping into even these classics. The author decided that there were items in these old stories that run contrary to our modern sensibilities, such as "conquering nature" and I suppose some issues involving minorities, so she decided to leave out certain things and emphasize the "compassionate side" (author's words) of these tall tale heroes. And of course she had to concoct a female tall tale character (sally windy whirlwind, or something like that) to complete the picture. Look, these stories were written and/or passed down from long ago. Yes, peoples' sensibilities were different. Yes, there are parts of these stories, and so many others, that are, how shall we say, not sensitive to the feelings of some individuals. But that's the way they were written, and that's the way they were told. Come to grips with it. I wonder how this author would react if someone censored her writings? I'll bet we can all guess.

cultural mythology

I bought this book for a grandchild. I grew up with the stories and want to share them and the characters with him. Who hasn't heard of at least one of the characters in the book: Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett?

The writing style will be easily understood by children in early elementary. The really exceptional part of this book is the Foreward. It easily and clearly explains how the stories in the book have become part of our US cultural heritage without needing to be an educator to understand it.

I highly recommend it to anyone considering this type of book.

Intermittently brilliant

Huxley was a man of many bizarre ideas as well as an uneven writer, but he could also be quite a deep and compelling thinker. This book is a particularly vivid example of this contradiction. I found parts of the novel almost painfully bad (one of the characters trying to communicate from the afterlife through an incompetent medium, or the epilogue that in effect abandons any pretense of being part of novel in order to become an unconfortable mix of essay and sermon). There is also the lingering problem of Huxley's uninformed and unfair attitude towards natural science. But in exchange for accepting these failures the reader gets two extraordinary character portraits: one of a monster (Mrs. Thwale) and one of a saint (Bruno the bookseller), both very convincing and immensely insightful. Add to that a penetrating study of the perils of self-absorption, a sound case for moral restraint, and the best diagnosis I have come across of why artists who express the most sublime insight about human nature can still behave like swine. It's sad and doubly ironic the Huxley himself should have been an impeachable character. Anyway, quite a worthwhile read.

The Spiritual Vision of a Great Genius

One thing that critics and fans alike agree on is that all of Huxley's later work has as its focus the kind of mystical, moral, personal transformation that goes back to the ancient Greeks. Huxley was convinced that love and goodness are the answer to life, and that self-knowledge and moral commitment to love are the only things that make life meaningful and the only hope for humanity. Many modern critics, being postmodern nihilists, hate this line of thinking and have been known to express this in no uncertain terms.

For those people who are convinced that love, goodness, and God (the transpersonal Eastern, Buddhist mystical God as opposed to the personal God of Western fundamentalists) are the answer to life's questions, Huxley's later works are an unequaled treasure. They are ten times as intelligent, subtle, and thought-provoking as the work of virtually any "New Age" author, and ten times as enjoyable as thouroughly realized works of art.

The characters are drawn with Huxley's characteristic satirical sensibility. The vision of the afterlife is a very original and unique aspect of this particular work. There are a few flaws in this particular work in that the poetry is rather bad and the epilogue, though by far the most inspiring part of the book, does seem to be somewhat "pasted on" to the end of the book, instead of worked in seamlessly to the storyline.

For those willing to allow themselves to be inspired by visions of goodness or saintliness, as people have been inspired by the accounts of Jesus, the Buddha, and many others throughout history, the best aspect of the novel by far is the depiction of Bruno Rotini. There may not be such a description in existence that was ever written with a better sense of aesthetic brilliance.

Not even close

Could someone please explain to me what this book is about?

I'm gonna break it down for ya quickly.

The heroine, X, is the stupidest thing I have ever had "pleasure" of reading about.

I'm not going to waste my time describing her. Here are some of her lines:

"Um..." I am flustered, stammering like a fool. Glansing at both my mom and Marcus. "Um.. Ah.. Uh..."

"Mom, this is... Marc. He's a... He's a..." Spit it out. "He's a friend, um... a friend I made here... I mean."

"Marc, I... God... I... I want... I just, I'm sorry... I... I wonder... What are you doing?"

"But Marc, but Marc... I can't... I..."

"Where? I... I... I don't... Oh, yes..." I see. Yes, I see."

Marcus: Creepy, perverse, billionaire/Mafioso, weird ass lord of the underground sex cult. The mafia element, which intrigued me at the beginning, totally confused towards the end. Was it mafia gang turned into sex cult, or sex cult became mafia?

He tells her she can't be with him unless she is initiated in to the "brotherhood" or what ever the hell that was. The whole thing got scarier by the page.

The writing: horrendous. If you haven't got that from heroine's lines, here is some more:

"We got back in his car and drove to his palazzo and then we parked by the rear door, in the dark, and we got out - and suddenly he picked me up and turned me around and threw me over the hood of the car and lifted up my dress and yanked down (blah blah blah happening) me from behind, over his beautiful Mercedes sports." - And all that happened in one f-ing sentence, and a lousy one at that!!!!

"You know, if I was vulgar, I could call you a stubborn cow."
I looked at him.
"Tua vacca, Celenza."
Your cow, Excellency."
(Ain't that just the sexiest thing you've ever heard? Not really! Vacca is still a vacca, honey!)

I did not finish this book and I don't even feel bad about it. 70% of that was more that enough. Life is too short, moving on to bigger and better things.

Left me cold

I purchased this looking for erotic romance and was pretty disappointed. The romance aspect was ok, but the "erotic" writing left me cold. It seemed very clinical and almost as if the author was trying to follow a formula she/he was uncomfortable with. The storyline was promising and I found the best part of the book were the descriptions of Italian towns, customs and history. The mysteries were mysterious all right, it was a mystery to me that the "rituals" were ascribed any sort of power or significance. Weird, and leading to nothing as far as I could see, especially (spoiler alert) the sixth mystery. I found the whole book unsatisfying and difficult to engage with.

Wow - what a terrible book! Not understanding the positive reviews at all....

Well, after reading the positive reviews for this book and reading the sample, I decided to give this book a try. I really wish I hadn't. It was not well written. Sure, the grammar was fine but there were pages and pages of boring and endless descriptions that had no relevance to the plot at all. I found myself skimming pages at a time, finding bits of plot here and there.
The book should have focused more on the relationship between the two characters than on every little detail of every wall in every street of Italy.
Speaking of the relationship, it was totally unbelievable, the only thing more unbelievable being the "Mysteries" plot they were involved in. It started out being a little kinky and erotic but then became more and more twisted, until it just became disturbing and upsetting and ridiculous.
This author obviously has some sick fantasies - she really ought to keep them in her mind and not taint her novels with them.
I like sexy and kinky and erotic but repeated rape by strangers as part of some "noble ritual"? I think not.
What a huge waste of money and may I ask - how did this book even get published????
So many good books and authors out there having to self publish when this trite is being sold in book stores....I don't get it.
Unless rape turns you on, I would avoid this one.
