Rebecca De Medeiros- Born and raised as a California girl, now transplanted into Iowa's blustery winters, dreams longingly of sandy beaches and palm trees. Thankfully, she is married to the most supportive, loving husband. He even believes her when she promises to be both a best seller and the next week's lottery winner. With two young children, two hyper puppies and a household chock full of laundry to fold- a supportive husband comes in handy when she forgets to defrost something for dinner because she is wrapped up in her work. He is the true inspiration to her romantic soul. Rebecca takes great pride in coming from a long line of strong, determined women. She credits (blames) them for encouraging her to pick up her first pen and writing down what was on her mind. Unfortunately her first artistic endeavor was "I will not hit my brother, even if he did call me Bucky Beaver" one hundred times. She sincerely hopes her writing has improved since those days. Brilliant 3rd book in series!

It's been a little while coming but so worth the wait!

All my favourite characters are there again and the atmosphere in Liberty,Texas is as perfect as ever with a new B*@!$ to take Trudy's place and a downtrodden sister who will undoubtedly earn her own story very soon (well, here's hoping!)

The author tackles the subject of disability with great sensitivity while wrapping us up in a hard story of love, lust, betrayal and deceit. I enjoyed all the usual shenanigans of the town busy bodies, who get well and truly put in their place by the strength of Mathias' true friends and family.

A brilliant 3rd in a series that I hope will run and run!

Excellent addition to Ms De Mederiros' written work

Great story. Wonderful to read by itself but more fun if you read the first two. That way you already feel at home with all of the characters. Some characters you love, some you love to hate but all well done. One couple needs a book to finish their story and the sheriff needs his story told. I would like to visit this town but will settle for reading the next book. Wish it had been longer but then I feel that way about all of the really interesting books I read.

You have to read this book if you read the first 2. It was really good. Trudy started out spoiled, bratty, and a pain in the butt. Who would have believed that Mathias would be her salvation. I do think the author let Trudy's mother and brother off too easy, and what's the story with Hunter and
what's going to happen with Daisy and her sister Etta. I do hope there's are going to be more books about these characters.

many topics covered

Hsu gives you a wide spread of topics. The book certainly has an impressive coverage. It talks about most types of digital modulation techniques, like Pulse Code Modulation. Plus, there is an explanation of random processes and simple probability. Necessary because of the inherent stochastic nature of much of communications. Which then leads directly into information theory, and the key Shannon concepts of how to find a quantitative measure of information in a channel with a given signal power and noise power.

Understand, though, that the very breadth of the discussion means that Hsu often only has time for a brief venture into each topic. But, then again, the book's title does say "Outline". This is really a review book, rather than a text from which to learn material for the first time.

Broad overview of communications topics

This is an excellent supplement for upper level undergraduate electrical engineering students enrolled in a communications class, particularly if either "Modern Digital and Analog Communication Systems" by Lathi or "Communication Systems Engineering" by Proakis is being used as the main textbook. This outline follows along with the topics in those books particularly well. The first two chapters go into the basics of signals and systems and discuss linearity, time invariance, impulse response, and the Fourier and Hilbert transforms. The next two chapters discuss the principles of amplitude and frequency modulation. The next four chapters cover the idea of random processes from the standpoint of communication theory. First the concepts of probability and random variables are introduced. Then random processes themselves are outlined. Finally these concepts are applied in chapters on noise in communication and hypothesis testing. I think this section of the outline does a particularly good job of presenting material and worked problems on possibly one of the hardest topics to understand in electrical engineering undergraduate studies. The final two chapters of the outline cover the basics of information theory and error control coding.

The depth of material presented is not sufficient for self-study, but is very good supplemental material. The problems are excellent with many worked out examples, and there are more than enough illustrations and figures to help explain the subject. I highly recommend this outline.
